Help me jump off a building for Outward Bound!
Phil Charron
Phil Charron
In 1992, I was struggling to figure out where I fit in the world. A friend who had just become an Outward Bound instructor suggested I take an adult mountaineering course to gain some perspective.
I learned all the things you'd expect: navigation, rock climbing, first aid, and how to poop in the woods. More importantly, I picked up skills and values that I have carried for the rest of my life: pursuing common goals on a diverse team; trusting myself and others in high-pressure situations; a deep love for the outdoors; and–most importantly–functioning as my comfort zone is challenged.
My instructors spoke about how their most treasured experiences with Outward Bound involved working with at-risk kids. The minute I earned a salary, I became a supporter. I am thrilled to be a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia school. This will be my fourth time supporting the school by rappelling down a 29-story building.
With your support, POBS will fund programs so everyone is able to have an Outward Bound experience, regardless of their economic situation. POBS serves well over 5,000 students annually from the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond, the majority of whom are from low-income families and underperforming schools. To ensure that students can participate regardless of financial capacity, POBS offers scholarships covering up to 80% of course fees for thousands of young people.
Please help me meet my goal by making a contribution of any size.
Thanks!
