Soon it’ll be autumn, which means it’s time for me to pretend to be a 24-year-old student at the US Army Ranger School again. I've signed up to rappel off a Philadelphia skyscraper. I'll do all 400+ feet, but I need your help to get me to the roof.
The event supports the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, which uses outdoor adventure to teach Leadership, Character, and Service. I'm on the board, and I love going to graduations. When these young people come off course they have a new appreciation for what they can accomplish. The lessons they learn about selflessness and hard work have a direct impact on their lives. Marcia once asked a student what was different in his life since Outward Bound. His response was clear and concise. "I used to be really lazy," he said. "Now I’m not."
I'm especially happy that POBS now runs veterans' courses and, recently, a course for kids who have lost a loved one in service overseas.
Many of our students cannot afford OB on their own, thus the fund-raising. This will be my fifth year, all made possible through the support of generous friends who didn't just talk about developing the next generation--they did something.
No contribution is too small. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
If you're in Philadelphia on October 21, come out to the event!
