Please help me to rappel down a 29- story office building. This wasn’t previously on my bucket list, but I’ve decided to join a fundraiser for the Philadelphia Outward Bound School.
.
As many who read this will know, I ride my bike a lot in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, the largest urban park in the U.S. (9,200) acres. Recently I was introduced to the Discovery Center which occupies about 40 acres around the East Park Reservoir. The Discovery Center is home to two compatible enterprises that operate youth education programs, AudubonPennsylvania and the Philadelphia Outward Bound School.

Through a bicycling friend I was introduced to Meg Wise, the Executive Director of Philadelphia Outward Bound and finally got the opportunity to tour this amazing space. The reservoir walk has the feel of an Audubon preserve, but within 3 miles of Philadelphia’s central business district. Meg invited me to join her team for a fundraiser for Outward Bound, which provides programming for more than 6,000 students annually. On October 22nd our team will rappel down the outside of Commerce Square, a 29-story Center City highrise. I am excited that this will be my first time rappelling down anything!
