ABOUT THE PHILADELPHIA OUTWARD BOUND SCHOOL

Outward Bound is the premier provider of experience-based outdoor leadership programs for youth and adults. The center of Outward Bound’s educational philosophy is the belief that for young people to succeed, they need character growth and skills to assume leadership roles and take positive approaches to life’s challenges. By engaging students in demanding situations, often in unfamiliar environments, Outward Bound allows students to develop as leaders while also encouraging self-reliance, physical fitness, craftsmanship, service to those in need and the environment and, above all, compassion.

At the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, we are deeply embedded in community – working with young people and adults: students, educators, school administrators and business, corporate and community leaders.

Our mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery. We help our students to discover that there is more in them than they thought and to learn a strength of character, ability to lead and desire to serve.

IMPACT

A tax-deductible donation to the Philadelphia Outward Bound School (POBS) will enable us to further our mission of changing lives through challenge and discovery.

POBS’ provides scholarship and subsidy for underserved youth from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware to participate in our outdoor experiential education programming.  Students learn that there is more in them than they thought, and our outcomes include leadership, character development and service.

YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK

At POBS, we seek innovative ways to apply Outward Bound’s renowned Educational Framework to address emerging social needs. We serve people of all ages and all walks of life. We offer a portfolio of single and multi-day courses that inspire new potential and expand horizons to help our students discover what it means to go beyond.

We want our students to have a positive impact on their lives and the lives of those around them. We employ a diverse and compassionate staff of highly trained, skilled and dedicated instructors, facilitators and educators trained to meet needs within our region. We partner with educational institutions, businesses, civic organizations and parents to serve all who wish to participate. That’s how Outward Bound has used challenge and discovery to change lives and prepare people to be capable, compassionate and engaged leaders since our founding in the U.S. in 1962.
